Diary and training notebook, program, and message book of Clarke (1890-1918), an Augusta, Wis. native who served with the 127th Infantry, 32nd Division during World War I and who was killed in France in 1918. The diary contains notes on daily activities as well as notes on bayonet and rifle training. There is also a checkbook noting expenses from basic training, a field message book, program from St. Luke's Chapel (France), souvenir postcards of Soissons (France), identification card with a photograph of Clarke, and an equipment list. Also included are materials related to Georgia Clarke (Bruce's mother) and the Gold Star Mother's 1931 trip to European cemeteries. A photograph shows Georgia Clarke weeping at her son's grave. There is also a photograph of New York City docks and post cards of the S.S. George Washington and the S.S. President Roosevelt.
